Have you ever seen how Ponda looks in the evening?
There’s something extremely comforting about this city – the warm people, the slightly cool breeze, peaceful roads, and a quiet sense of familiarity that slowly settles in.
Ponda is known for its beautiful temples, cozy local spots, and a culture that feels deeply rooted and real. For many locals, evenings begin with food – and honestly, you already know where we’re heading.
Temples of Ponda – Calm in Chaos
Ponda is also a city of temples. From Monday to Sunday, you can visit countless temples here, each carrying its own history and energy.
One of my absolute favourites is the Mahalaxmi Temple in Bandora. Every time I visit, I feel instantly relaxed and grounded. It’s one of those places where silence speaks louder than words.

Patil Vada Pav – The OG of Ponda
Yes, Patil Vada Pav – the legend that has been serving Ponda for decades. Watching the vada pav being made is an experience in itself.
First, the pav is sliced neatly in the middle. Then comes the green chutney, Farsan, a little ketchup, and chopped onions. And then – the main boss – the OG Vada, stuffed with perfectly spiced bhaji. It’s finally served with a fried Mirchi on the side.
By now, my mouth was already watering. One bite, and you instantly understand why this place has been loved by generations.

Sunset at Madkai with Local Gobi at Sarvesh Food Stall
After that heavy happiness, it’s time to slow things down. We head to Madkai, a peaceful spot perfect for catching the sunset. Sitting near the lake, with cozy seating and a calm view, makes everything feel lighter.
And of course, what’s a sunset without food? The local Gobi, which people literally die for, makes this moment even better. Trust me – eating it while watching the sun go down hits different.

Sadu Chilly & Mahesh Bar – A Love Affair
And how can I forget Sadu Chilly – the OG spot known all over Goa (and even outside) for its chicken chilli? Mahesh Bar and Restaurant holds a special place in my heart.
The first bite literally melts in your mouth – spicy, flavourful, and addictive. If you’re in Ponda, this is a must-try. No excuses.

Umesh Gaddo – Where Patience Meets Perfection
One place I absolutely cannot miss is Umesh, known for serving some of the best cafreal in town. Around 7:30 PM, the place is packed – full of people, full of noise, full of hunger. Sometimes, you even have to wait for an hour, but trust me, it’s worth every minute.
The chilli chicken is a fan favourite, and the chicken cafreal is simply unbeatable. For my vegetarian friends, the paneer cafreal and mushroom chilli are on point. And their Maggi? Honestly, one of the best in town. I swear by it.
